Loft storage in Abbey Wood

Loft rooms are often bedrooms, so storage for clothes matters. Wardrobes under the slope, drawers in the knee wall and shelves in the dormer can all work together. Planned together, they make the room feel ordered. We design them around what you need to store in Abbey Wood. We make eaves cupboards from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and the things people most often want solved are standard furniture that won’t go up the loft stairs and a new loft conversion that needs storage.

Around Abbey Wood, where many homes date from the post-war decades, windows are often wide, with radiators below. Seating over a radiator needs a grille or open front to keep the heat moving. Fitted storage can also use the hall, the landing or the space below the stairs, made to fit the room as it is.

We write quotes in plain English. They say what will be made, what it is made from and how it will be finished.

Pricing loft storage in Abbey Wood

Prices vary from room to room, for these reasons:

  • How big the furniture is
  • Parking and unloading on your street
  • Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
  • Access to the room, like stairs, lifts and narrow halls

In London, parking can affect the price. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay. It is useful to talk about parking during the design visit, so it can be planned.

What we need to know

To give us a picture of the room, it helps to include:

  • The type of home and how the room is reached
  • Approximate measurements of the space
  • Examples of the look you are after
  • Anything in the way, such as radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters

The design visit is where every quote starts. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. Afterwards, we send a quote in writing. To arrange the visit, send us a few details through our contact form.

Storage in Abbey Wood homes: local notes

In the streets around Abbey Wood, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 37%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 35%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Near the centre of Abbey Wood, Historic England’s list includes Church of St Nicholas (plumstead) (Grade II*), about 0.5 miles west, and The Plume of Feathers Public House (Grade II), about 0.5 miles west. Listing covers the inside of a building as well as the outside, so works that affect a listed home’s character, like removing original joinery, can need listed building consent. Ask the council’s conservation officer before anything is fixed. About 45% of households around Abbey Wood live in terraced houses, well above the figure for Greenwich as a whole, about 27%, the 2021 Census shows. Terraces bring narrow halls and tight stairs, so eaves cupboards are made in sections that fit.

For a family home near Alexander McLeod Primary School, eaves cupboards can be planned around what a family needs to keep, from coats and bags to sports kit. Danson House, about 2.1 miles south, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, eaves cupboards in a converted loft are scribed to slopes that are rarely even.

Abbey Wood is within the Royal Borough of Greenwich, about 1 mile west of Plumstead. Abbey Wood is part of the area we cover, and the process is the same everywhere we work. Abbey Wood is one of 18 places on our list for Greenwich.

Postcode districts we cover here for loft storage: SE2, SE18 and DA16. We also make loft storage in nearby places such as Greenwich (5 miles west), Eltham (4 miles south-west), Woolwich (2 miles west), Westcombe Park (4 miles west), Well Hall (3 miles south-west) and Maze Hill (5 miles west).

How fitting day works

With the carcasses fixed and level, any doors go on and any drawers or lids are fitted. We adjust each one so the gaps line up and it closes cleanly. How long the fitting takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. In a post-war house, the hall and stairs are typically straight and simple, so carrying in is rarely difficult. The way in is still measured, along with the room. On the day, sections are joined, levelled and fixed, with floors protected throughout.

  1. To begin, drop us a line using the contact form; a brief note on the loft and the storage you want is enough.
  2. We visit to measure the slopes and eaves and talk through cupboards, drawers and wardrobes under them.
  3. A quote in writing follows, with the design, materials and finish.
  4. The storage is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, cut to the angles we measured.
  5. We fit the storage in the loft, trimming the edges so they meet the ceiling neatly.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
  • Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
  • Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through

Starting with a design visit

The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. Each room is different, so we quote after seeing it, when we have measured up and talked through the design. For a quote, tell us about the room on our contact form.

Materials and finishes

Plinths and scribe strips

In a loft room, walls, slopes and floors are rarely straight. We use scribe strips and a plinth to take up the difference. That keeps the lines neat all round.

Birch plywood

Birch plywood is made in layers, which makes it strong and stable. We use it for carcasses, shelves and drawer boxes, with the edge either shown or painted.

Do you need loft storage in Abbey Wood?

Some people have a boarded loft and want proper shelving. Shelves and cupboards keep things off the floor and easy to find. It suits seasonal things and boxes.

These come up often when people first get in touch:

  • Space under the eaves going to waste
  • A loft room that doubles as an office or guest room
  • A converted loft with no fitted furniture
  • Boxes piled on loft boards

Living in a block of flats near Abbey Wood station? Then the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in.

What to check before you book

  • Is it spray painted or hand painted?
  • Have they thought about parking near you?
  • Can you see real work of theirs?
  • Will they visit to measure before quoting?

Common questions about loft storage

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Abbey Wood station?

Yes. We cover all of Greenwich and the rest of London. To get started, you can drop us a line using the contact form with some details about the room, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

Do you make loft storage for homes in Abbey Wood?

Yes, we work across Greenwich, Abbey Wood included, and across the rest of London. You can send us a few details through our contact form to arrange a design visit.

What finishes do you offer?

There are two ways to finish it: spray painted or hand painted. A spray finish is smooth and even, while a hand-painted one is easy to touch up later.

What do eaves cupboards cost?

We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. The mix of cupboards, drawers and wardrobes, and the finish, all play a part. Everything is set out in a written quote after the visit.

Do pictures help?

Yes, they help. Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space, particularly with rough sizes. You can send them when you message us from the contact page.

Can you convert my loft as well?

No, we build storage in lofts that are already converted or boarded. A conversion is building work, and Building Regulations apply. When the room is finished, we can plan the storage.

Flats, conversions and lettings

If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations. We cannot advise on your lease.

Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. If there’s a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Let us know about it when you contact us.
