Loft Storage in Winchmore Hill

We make loft storage for homes in Winchmore Hill, designed around the room you have. We design your eaves cupboard at a visit to your home, make it in our workshop and fit it.

  • No wardrobe that fits under the slope
  • A boarded loft that’s hard to keep organised
  • A loft room that doubles as an office or guest room

Loft storage designed for your room

DIY, flat-pack or bespoke

What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.

Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there’s often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.

Loft storage in Winchmore Hill: what you get

Our work is in loft rooms that are already converted, or lofts that are boarded. The conversion itself is not our work, and conversions come under Building Regulations. With the room in place, we can plan the storage. In Winchmore Hill, it all begins with a design visit. Most enquiries start with a new loft conversion that needs storage and a boarded loft with no proper shelving, and the answer is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.

Walls in houses from between the wars are normally straighter than in older ones, but seldom perfect. Around Winchmore Hill, interwar houses, semis and detached homes make up a big part of the housing, so we still scribe every piece to the wall. Each piece is levelled on site, so doors, lids and drawers line up.

After the design visit, we send you a quote in writing. It sets out the design we’ve talked through, the materials and the finish, so you know exactly what you’re getting.

Why bespoke in Winchmore Hill?

In a loft room, walls and floors are seldom square. Standard furniture leaves visible gaps. Our storage is scribed to the room and set level, so the lines look right. Standard widths rarely add up to the length of a real wall, which fitted furniture avoids. It can use the full height too.

We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit, so size is the starting point. After that, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish all play a part.

Why us?

  • Saturdays by arrangement
  • We visit, measure and go through the design before we quote
  • Workshop-made and fitted by us
  • Made for your room, not a standard size

Fitting day, step by step

On the morning of the fitting, we start by protecting your floors and the route from the front door to the room. The sections built in our workshop come in next, a piece at a time. How long fitting takes depends on the length of the eaves and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Interwar houses normally have a straight run of stairs and a reasonable hallway, though we still measure the route in along with the room itself. The furniture comes in sections and is put together where it’s going, with floors protected throughout.

  1. You let us know about your converted or boarded loft.
  2. At the design visit, the room and the route up are measured, as everything has to get up there.
  3. We agree the cupboards, drawers and wardrobes, and send a quote in writing, with the finish set out.
  4. The storage is built in our workshop, in sections sized for the stairs. It is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We carry it up, fit it and check every door and drawer with you. Any hand painting is done in the loft.

Before fitting day

Questions we’re often asked

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Winchmore Hill station?

Yes. We cover all of Enfield and the rest of London. To get started, you can fill in our short enquiry form with some details about the room, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

Is parking a problem for fitting in Winchmore Hill?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It is useful to tell us about parking at the design visit.

Do I choose the paint colour?

You do. We agree the colour with you before anything is painted.

What are your eaves cupboards made from?

Moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish. Stable materials suit a loft, where temperatures can vary. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote.

How much does loft storage cost?

Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. The size of the room, the amount of storage and the finish all shape the price. For a quote, message us from the contact page to arrange a design visit.

What do you do at the measuring visit?

We take full measurements, look at the walls and floors and work through the design together. We will also ask about access and parking.

Why people ask for loft storage in Winchmore Hill

Loft rooms that double as offices or guest rooms need places for things. Storage in the eaves leaves the main floor clear.

If any of these sound familiar, it’s worth getting in touch:

  • An empty dormer that could hold shelves
  • A boarded loft that is hard to keep organised
  • Seasonal things cluttering the loft room
  • A loft room that still feels unfinished

Close to Grovelands Park? Eaves cupboards can be designed to hold outdoor kit, from walking boots to picnic things.

Questions to ask before you hire anyone

  • How doors and drawers are fitted
  • Whether the quote follows a visit to your home
  • How parking will work on your street
  • How they deal with uneven walls and floors

Choosing a carpenter in London: a checklist

What affects the cost of loft storage

A few things affect what fitted furniture costs:

  • The overall size of the piece
  • The internal fittings
  • Doors and drawers, and how many
  • Tricky walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors

Every room is priced on its own, because size, layout and finish change from job to job. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. The figure comes in your written quote after the design visit.

What we need to know

Before the design visit, it helps us to know about:

  • Whether it is a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
  • Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
  • What the furniture needs to hold
  • Approximate measurements of the space

It is useful to see the room before we come. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them tell us a lot about the space, along with rough sizes. To share them, tell us about the room on our contact form, and we’ll arrange a design visit.
