TV and media units for your home in Westminster
Questions we are often asked
My home in Westminster is a flat. How do you get the furniture in?
We measure the route in not just the room: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. TV and media units are built in our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. It helps to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.
Will a conservation area stop me having TV and media units fitted in Westminster?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character may need listed building consent from the council. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.
How long will the fitting take?
How long fitting takes depends on the size of the unit and how many cupboards and shelves it has, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. We’ll talk you through what to expect beforehand.
How much will my TV unit cost?
Size, doors and drawers, what goes inside and the finish all affect it, along with access and parking. The price comes in a written quote after the design visit.
Do photos help?
Yes. They give us a feel for the space before we visit, along with rough sizes. Show anything the furniture has to work around, such as radiators or sockets.
Do I get to choose the colour?
You choose it. Whichever finish you pick, it’s in the colour you’ve chosen.
TV and media units in Westminster: what you get
Hiding the cables is often the main aim. We plan cable routes through the unit from the start, with holes, channels and access panels so leads can be added or changed later. The routes are ours, while any wiring is for your electrician. Typical reasons to get in touch are a tangle of wires behind the TV and a screen at the wrong height; the furniture is made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
Picture rails, deep skirting boards and plaster cornices are part of the character of older houses, and they set the lines that TV and media units have to meet. Homes built before 1919 make up a large share of the housing around Westminster, so mouldings are something we expect to talk about at the design visit. The top of the furniture can stop at the picture rail or carry on to the cornice, whichever suits the room.
Materials are named in the quote: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job. The finish is stated too, whether that is spray painting or hand painting.

Where other trades come in
We make and fit furniture, and we do not do electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering or structural work. Please bear these in mind too:
- Connecting the TV signal or internet
- Moving sockets or adding new wiring, which is for your electrician
- Structural changes to the wall
If in doubt, you can get in touch through our contact form and describe the room before you arrange a visit. How a job runs, step by step.

How we price TV and media units
When we put a quote together, we consider:
- Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
- How many doors and drawers there are
- How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
- The finish: spray painted or hand painted
Rooms that aren’t square take more work: uneven walls, sloping floors and angled ceilings all add scribing and cutting on site. The quote allows for it, written once we have measured up.
What we need to know
Ahead of the design visit, we’ll typically ask about:
- A few photos of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
- What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
- The postcode, so we can plan the visit
- Any ideas or images you have saved
If you already have something in mind, tell us; if you do not, that is fine, and we can work it out together. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote then sets it out. To start, send us a few details through our contact form.
When is bespoke worth it?
Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that are not square. Older London rooms tend to have leaning walls, sloping floors and alcoves of different widths, which leaves standard units with gaps at the sides and top.
Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.
The problems TV and media units solve
In an open-plan space, the TV wall is on show from everywhere. A built-in unit gives that wall order and adds storage for the rest of the room.
Common reasons to get in touch include:
- A TV that looks out of place in the room
- Standard units leaving gaps
- Speakers muffled behind doors
- Boxes with no ventilation
If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as London Underground Headquarters, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.
Questions to ask before you hire anyone
- How they deal with uneven walls and floors
- Will the quote be in writing?
- Where they’ll park and unload
- Whether the route into your home has been checked
Living-room carpentry in Westminster: local notes
The biggest shares of homes in the streets around Westminster were built before 1919 (about 47%) and since 2000 (about 25%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. We take that into account during the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Within a mile of the centre of Westminster, 33 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. The Ultra Low Emission Zone has covered all of London since it reached the outer boroughs on 29 August 2023. It applies to every van that comes to fit furniture in Westminster. Access and parking are talked through during the design visit.
If you live in a period home close to Christ Church, the alcoves beside a chimney breast are the natural place for TV and media units. For a family home near Harris Westminster Sixth Form, a cupboard for board games and a shelf for reading books can go into the same design.
Westminster is about 1 mile north-west of City of Westminster, within the City of Westminster. Anywhere in Westminster, the process is the same: we visit and measure, send a written quote, make the furniture in our workshop and fit it. We cover places right across the rest of London.
Every home in SW1P, W1J and SW1V is covered for TV and media units. Our area takes in homes on streets such as Eaton Lane, Wilton Road and Castle Lane, whether you want TV and media units or another piece made for the room. The A4 and A202 run close to Westminster, so if your home is on a main road, mention it when you contact us. Neighbouring places we cover for TV and media units include Millbank (1 mile north), Victoria (1 mile south-west), Pimlico (1 mile south), Vauxhall (1 mile south-east) and Lambeth (1 mile south-east). Other parts of the rest of London we cover include Paddington Green (2 miles north-west), Paddington (2 miles north-west), Connaught Village (2 miles north-west), Lisson Grove (2 miles north-west), Westbourne (3 miles north-west) and Little Venice (3 miles north-west).
Near you in Westminster
In Westminster, that includes homes near Blewcoat School, St Matthew's School and Grafton Arms and the streets around them. Westminster’s nearest station is London Victoria station, roughly 0.6 miles south-west of the centre. A little further out are The Crime Museum (under half a mile south) and Kingly Court (0.9 miles north). For a walk, there’s St. James's Park Lake.
Fitting day, step by step
There isn’t much for you to do on fitting day. We need someone to let us in at the start, and it helps to have the room cleared beforehand, as we will have talked about at the design visit. After that, it is over to us: the floors are covered, the sections come in and the fitting begins. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the unit and how many cupboards and shelves it has, and your quote sets out the fitting days. On fitting day in an older house, the main job is scribing to walls and levelling on floors that slope, so there’s some trimming and adjusting on site. We protect the floors and keep dust to a minimum. Parking can be tight on terraced streets, so tell us about permits and bays at the measuring visit.
- You get in touch with details of the room and where it is in your home.
- At the design visit we measure the wall and also the hall, stairs and doorways the unit has to pass through. Let us know about parking too, since a van may need a visitor permit or a paid bay.
- A written quote follows, setting out the design, materials and finish.
- The unit is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections that fit the route in.
- The sections are carried in, assembled and set level, ready for your equipment.
How to prepare
- Empty the space we’ll be working in
- Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
- If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
Arranging a design visit
To make a start, message us from the contact page and let us know which room you have in mind. We then arrange a design visit to measure and discuss the design, and a quote in writing follows.
