Walk-in wardrobes for your home in Mile End

Questions we’re often asked

Will a conservation area stop me having walk-in wardrobes fitted in Mile End?

Not normally. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character can need listed building consent from the council. If you are unsure, the council can confirm.

Do you cover homes near Limehouse station?

Yes, homes across Tower Hamlets and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can send us a few details through our contact form to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

Do I need to be at home on fitting day?

Someone needs to be there to let us in. After that, you don’t need to stay in the room.

What do you do at the measuring visit?

We measure the space and discuss the design, materials and finish. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, and the written quote comes afterwards.

Do I get to choose the colour?

You choose it. Whichever finish you pick, it is in the colour you’ve chosen.

How is the furniture painted?

There are two choices: spray painting, done in the workshop for a smooth, even finish, or hand painting, which can be done on site. The finish is agreed in your quote.

Walk-in wardrobes in Mile End: what you get

We fit walk-in wardrobes in Mile End and across London. We begin with a design visit, measuring the room and talking through the design, followed by a quote. Once agreed, we make the units in our workshop and fit them in your home. How long fitting takes depends on the room and how much is fitted into it, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. We make walk-in wardrobes from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, and the usual reasons to get in touch are a side each for a couple and somewhere to sit and get ready.

Stud walls in newer homes can carry pipes and cables, so the walls are checked before anything is fixed. Around Mile End, where many homes were built since 2000, it is part of every design visit. Heavy pieces are fixed into the studs or stand on the floor.

Once you’ve read the quote and decided to go ahead, the furniture is made in our workshop. The quote sets out the agreed design, materials and finish, so you can check every detail beforehand.

Bespoke walk-in wardrobes or ready-made?

Open rail systems are simple and adaptable, and that has real appeal. Bespoke joinery lets you mix doors, drawers, shelves and hanging, in a finish that suits the house. Newer homes often have compact rooms where standard furniture leaves tricky gaps, and fitted furniture uses that space. It can also be planned around boxed-in pipes and risers.

There is no price list, because each job is designed for a single room. Instead, we measure, discuss the design and then quote in writing. To arrange a design visit, fill in our short enquiry form.

Why choose us

  • 300+ projects completed
  • Workshop-made and fitted by us
  • Built around your room
  • Fitted tight to walls that aren’t straight

Take a look at how bespoke compares with ready-made or how to compare quotes.

How we price walk-in wardrobes

What you pay depends on:

  • Access to the room, such as stairs, lifts and narrow halls
  • How square the room is
  • The internal fittings
  • The width and height of the space

The finish affects the cost: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. Your choice, along with the size and the fittings, is reflected in the written quote.

Helping us understand the room

To help us picture the room, please include:

  • The type of home and how the room is reached
  • Approximate measurements of the space
  • What the furniture needs to hold
  • Examples of the look you’re after

To make a start, get in touch through our contact form and tell us a little about the room and roughly what you’d like. We then arrange a design visit to measure and talk through the design, and a quote in writing follows.

Flats, conversions and lettings

In a flat, the route in matters as much as the room. At the design visit, we measure the stairs, the landings, any lift and the doors, so the furniture can be made in sections that fit through.

A lot of London’s terraced houses are now converted flats, which often brings a shared hall and tight turns on the stairs. Each section is sized with that in mind.

What we do not do

Some parts of a job need another trade, such as an electrician, a plumber or a Gas Safe registered engineer. Here is what to bear in mind:

  • Fixing the cause of damp
  • Lighting and wiring, which are for your electrician
  • Lease checks, which are for you and your building’s managers

If you’re not sure what’s possible in your room, you can drop us a line using the contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer before you arrange a visit. Our process from visit to fitting.

Walk-in wardrobes in Mile End: local notes

In the area around Mile End, the largest groups of homes date from the years since 2000 (about 45%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 21%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. It is a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Mile End include Phoenix School (Grade II*), less than half a mile north-east, and Church of St Paul (Grade II*), about 0.5 miles south. Works inside a listed home that affect its character, for example removing original joinery or fixing into it, can require listed building consent from the council. An early word with the council’s conservation officer is the best first step. Purpose-built flats are home to about 77% of households in the area around Mile End, going by Census 2021 figures from the ONS. In a block, each section is sized to get up the stairs or into the lift and through the door. Many blocks have rules on lift booking and working hours, so check with the managing agent before fitting day.

Sutton House, about 1.8 miles north-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, tall ceilings give walk-in wardrobes room to reach the cornice. For an older house near Holy Trinity Church, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where walk-in wardrobes go. Close to Mile End Park? Morning light matters, so tall pieces go where they will not shade the window.

Mile End is about 2 miles west of Whitechapel, within the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. We can visit homes in Mile End on weekdays, or on a Saturday by arrangement. We list Mile End among 31 places we cover in Tower Hamlets.

We cover every part of E3, E1 and E14 for walk-in wardrobes. If your home is on a street such as Bow Road, Bale Road and Toby Lane, or close by, we can visit to measure up for walk-in wardrobes. The A1205 runs close to Mile End; on busy main roads, unloading walk-in wardrobes takes a little planning. Nearby, we also make walk-in wardrobes in Bow (1 mile north), Bow Common (1 mile south-east), Bromley (1 mile east), Limehouse (1 mile south) and Donnybrook Quarter (1 mile north). We also make walk-in wardrobes in nearby places such as Whitechapel (2 miles west), Spitalfields (2 miles west), Tower Hill (2 miles south-west), St George in the East (2 miles south-west), Wapping (2 miles south-west) and Isle of Dogs (3 miles south).

Around Mile End

We fit furniture in homes around Malmesbury Primary School and Lord Tredegar Public House. For rail, the closest station is Limehouse station, about 0.9 miles south of the centre. Other landmarks nearby include Westfield Stratford City (1.7 miles north-east) and St Clement's Hospital (a few minutes’ walk north-east). Green spaces nearby include Old Ford Island.

What happens on fitting day

On the morning of the fitting, we start by protecting your floors and the route from the front door to the room. The sections made at our workshop come in next, one at a time. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Stud walls can carry pipes and cables, so we check before drilling, and heavy pieces are fixed into the studs or stand on the floor. Any new sockets or plumbing are for your electrician or plumber, ideally before fitting day.

  1. You contact us about a walk-in wardrobe or dressing room.
  2. We visit to plan the room and measure the way in, including stairs, landings and doorways. It helps to mention parking then, as much of London has controlled parking zones.
  3. We send a quote in writing.
  4. In our workshop we build the units in sections from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We carry the sections in, join them in the room and scribe them to the walls. The finish is sprayed beforehand or painted by hand on site.

Before we arrive

  • Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
  • Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
  • Keep pets in another room while we work

Arranging a design visit

Getting a quote starts with a few details: the room, rough sizes and some pictures if you have them. To send them, send us a few details through our contact form. We will then arrange a design visit and follow it with a quote in writing.
