Bedrooms in Earlsfield: local notes
The biggest shares of homes in the area around Earlsfield were built before 1919 (about 65%) and since 2000 (about 12%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Earlsfield include Church of St Andrew (Grade II), under half a mile south, and Earlsfield House (Grade II), under half a mile north-west. If you live in a listed building, fixing into or taking out original features such as panelling can need listed building consent. Check with the council’s conservation officer first. The Ultra Low Emission Zone has covered all of London since it reached the outer boroughs on 29 August 2023. So any van that delivers or fits furniture in Earlsfield is covered by it. Parking and access are planned at the design visit.
The wider area includes historic houses such as Fulham Palace, about 2.3 miles north-west. For a period home anywhere nearby, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where walk-in wardrobes go. For a family home near Beatrix Potter Primary School, a mix of drawers and shelves copes with school uniform as well as everything else. If you live in a period home close to St John the Divine, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where walk-in wardrobes go.

Walk-in wardrobes for homes in Earlsfield
Drawers, shelves and shoe storage make a walk-in wardrobe work day to day. Shelves suit folded clothes and bags, while drawers hold smaller things and shoes get shelving of their own. A dressing table with a mirror can be built in where there’s space. If your home has a calmer, clearer bedroom and separate space for two people’s clothes, walk-in wardrobes made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed can solve it.
A large share of the homes around Earlsfield were built before 1919, and bedrooms in houses of that age often have a chimney breast with an alcove either side. Fitted storage can sit in the alcoves or span the wall, chimney breast and all. Walls and floors in older houses are rarely true, so the pieces are scribed to the wall and levelled at the base.
Everything we agree during the design visit goes into the written quote: the layout, what goes inside, the materials used and the finish. If you’d like to change anything, it’s easier before the furniture is made.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders
Leaseholders should check the lease before anything is fixed to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations, and that’s best sorted before fitting day. We cannot give advice on leases.
If you live in a flat, getting the furniture in is planned from the start. At the design visit, we measure the stairs, the landings, any lift and the doors, so the furniture can be made in sections that fit through without a struggle.
Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Choosing bespoke means a design visit, a quote, workshop time and fitting, as well as a bigger outlay. What you get is storage designed for what you own and the space you have. Ready-made tall pieces have to be fixed to the wall for safety, and in an older house that can mean fixing into brick or lath and plaster. Fitted furniture is designed with the wall in mind.
What goes inside matters as much as the outside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers all add work. We’ll talk through what you need inside at the measuring visit, and the quote follows.
Why us?
- Saturday work by prior arrangement
- Fitted tight to walls that are not straight
- We visit, measure and go through the design before we quote
- Spray painted or hand painted, in the colour you choose

Questions from Earlsfield
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Earlsfield?
It can be, as controlled parking zones cover much of inner London. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It’s useful to tell us about parking during the design visit.
My home in Earlsfield is a flat. How do you get the furniture in?
We measure the route in as well as the room: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. It helps to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.
Do you work on Saturdays?
Yes, Saturdays are possible by prior arrangement. Just mention it when you contact us.
Is an outside wall a problem for fitted furniture?
External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, so ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps to avoid condensation. Any damp needs sorting by the right specialist before fitting.
Do you move sockets or add lighting?
No. Electrical work is not something we do; it is a job for your electrician. We can plan cable routes into the design.
How much time does fitting need?
How long fitting takes depends on the room and how much is fitted into it, and your quote sets out the fitting days. We’ll talk it through during the design visit.
Pricing walk-in wardrobes in Earlsfield
Every room is different, so every job is quoted on its own. These are the things that affect it:
- The internal fittings
- The finish: spray painted or hand painted
- Parking and unloading on your street
- Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.
What we need to know
What helps most when you first contact us:
- Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
- Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
- What the furniture needs to hold
- Approximate measurements of the space
Rough sizes are fine at the start. Everything is measured properly when we visit, including how level the floor and ceiling are. To get started, drop us a line using the contact form with a few details about the room. The written quote follows the visit.
How fitting works for walk-in wardrobes
There is not much for you to do on fitting day. We need someone to let us in at the start, and the room should already be cleared, as we’ll have talked about during the design visit. After that, it is over to us: the floors are covered, the sections come in and the fitting begins. The time the fitting takes depends on how much hanging, shelving and drawer space goes in, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Hallways in period houses are often narrow, and the stairs turn sharply, so walk-in wardrobes are made in sections sized to get through. Floors and stair carpets are protected on the way in and out, and the sections are joined and scribed in the room.
- It starts with a short note from you.
- At the design visit we measure the walls, floor and ceiling at several points, as few rooms are truly square.
- You receive a quote in writing covering the design, materials and finish.
- We make the walk-in wardrobe in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We fit the units and trim the edges to meet the walls and ceiling.
- Before we leave we go through the doors and drawers with you; new paintwork needs gentle handling while it cures.
Getting ready for fitting day
- Take anything hanging off the wall we are fitting to
- Let us know where the boiler and meters are
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street

Looking after your furniture
Fitted furniture is part of the room, so it’s worth looking after. A few pointers help:
- Count your shoes before the design visit
- Think about long versus double hanging
- Talk to your electrician early about lighting
- Consider a mix of doors and open shelves
Once the units are fitted, the paint needs time to cure fully. Treat the doors and drawer fronts gently at first, and wipe them with a soft, damp cloth.
A new partition wall is building work, so it comes before us. We fit the furniture once the room is ready.
