How we make walk-in wardrobes for Hackney Wick
Some people want doors on everything; others like open shelves and rails. Doors keep dust off and give a calm look, while open storage lets you see everything at once. We will go through the options at the design visit. We make walk-in wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and the things people most often want solved are a bedroom without crowded wardrobes and a built-in dressing table.
In a home built since 2000, stud walls may hide pipes and cables, so the walls are checked before anything is fixed. Many homes around Hackney Wick date from 2000 onwards, so this check is routine. Heavy pieces are fixed into the studs or stand on the floor.
Everything we agree at the design visit goes into the written quote: the layout and internal fittings, the materials and the finish. If something isn’t quite right, tell us before anything is made.

Fitting day, step by step
The last stage of the day is the finish. With a spray finish from the workshop, there is normally only filling and touching up to do in the room; hand painting, if that’s what you chose, can be done in place once everything is fitted. Either way, the finish is the one set out in your quote. Fitting day starts by covering floors and setting out the sections. Each piece is levelled and fixed to suit plasterboard or block. Any hand painting can be finished on site.
- You contact us about a walk-in wardrobe or dressing room.
- We visit to plan the room and measure the way in, including stairs, landings and doorways. It helps to mention parking then, as much of London has controlled parking zones.
- We send a quote in writing.
- In our workshop we build the units in sections from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We carry the sections in, join them in the room and scribe them to the walls. The finish is sprayed beforehand or painted by hand on site.
Before fitting day
- Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
- Tell us about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
- Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
Getting a quote
Every quote follows a design visit. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, then send a quote in writing. Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. To book a design visit, drop us a line using the contact form.

Flats, leases and landlords
If you live in a flat, getting the furniture in is planned from the start. At the design visit, we measure the stairs, the landings, any lift and the doors, so each section is sized to get through without a struggle.
We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let. The materials are the same as for any home: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with a spray or hand-painted finish.
What it’s made from
Shelves
Shelves suit folded clothes, bags and boxes. Spans and depths are sized so they do not sag.
Birch plywood
Birch plywood is strong and holds screws well, which matters for drawers and long shelves. Its layered edge can be shown or painted.
Is bespoke worth it?
Modular units are made in fixed sizes, so the space above and at the ends is often wasted. A bespoke design can run to the ceiling and fill the walls, so very little space goes to waste. Newer homes often have compact rooms where standard furniture leaves awkward gaps, while fitted furniture is made to the room. It works around service boxing too.
How it’s painted is part of the price: spray painting happens in the workshop, and hand painting can be done in your home. Your choice, along with the size and the fittings, is reflected in the written quote.

Your questions about walk-in wardrobes in Hackney Wick
I live near Hackney Wick station. Is that in your area?
Yes, homes across Tower Hamlets and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can send us a few details through our contact form with a few details about the room.
My home in Hackney Wick is a flat. How do you get the furniture in?
We measure the route in as well as the room: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it is worth checking those early.
Is it better to have doors or open storage?
It’s your choice. Doors give a tidy look and help keep dust away, and open storage makes things quick to find. Many people choose a mix.
Do I need to be at home on fitting day?
Someone needs to let us in. It also helps to have someone around at the end, so we can go over the finished furniture together.
Can you build a dressing area in my bedroom?
Yes, if there is enough space. A section of the room can become a dressing area, open or behind doors. A new partition wall is building work, so that is for your builder.
Do I get to choose the colour?
You choose it, and we agree it with you before the furniture is finished. Whichever finish you pick, it’s in the colour you’ve chosen.
The problems walk-in wardrobes solve
Couples sharing a wardrobe often want more space each. We can design separate areas for hanging, shelves and drawers, so neither of you is squeezed.
Walk-in wardrobes can help with:
- Shelves for shoes and bags
- More space for clothes and shoes
- A walk-in wardrobe within the bedroom
- A use for a small spare room
If you live near Mabley Green, morning light matters, so tall pieces go where they won’t shade the window.
Questions to ask before you hire anyone
- Who does any electrics, plumbing or gas work
- Can you see real work of theirs?
- How they handle walls that aren’t straight
- How doors and drawers are fitted
