Bespoke kitchens for your home in Grange Mills
Bespoke kitchens in Grange Mills
Our bespoke kitchens are fitted in Grange Mills and all over London. It starts with a design visit to measure and talk through the layout, then a written quote. The cabinets are made in our workshop and fitted in your home. The time the fitting takes depends on how many units there are and how the room is laid out, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote, so you can plan around it. We make kitchens from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, and people most often get in touch about a pantry cupboard with shelves and drawers and a dresser that suits a period house.
With a large share of homes around Grange Mills built before 1919, many kitchens still have a chimney breast, which can be built around rather than fought. A blocked chimney still needs ventilating, and any damp is sorted before cabinets go against it. Plumbing, gas and electrics are for your plumber, a Gas Safe engineer and your electrician.
You get the quote in writing, so there is time to read it properly and share it with anyone else involved. It records the design, the materials and the finish we discussed.

How it is made
Moisture-resistant MDF
We use moisture-resistant MDF for many kitchen doors and panels, because it copes with a room that gets warm and steamy.
Larder and dresser units
Larders and dressers can fill an alcove or end a run in a way standard units can’t.
Common questions about bespoke kitchens
My home in Grange Mills is a flat. How do you get the furniture in?
At the design visit, we measure the way in not just the room. Kitchens are made at our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. It is useful to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.
Is parking a problem for fitting in Grange Mills?
It can be, as controlled parking zones cover much of inner London. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit, and we’ll plan around it.
Can you come on a Saturday?
Yes, by prior arrangement. Let us know when you contact us if a Saturday suits you best.
Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?
You can choose between two finishes: by spray or by hand. Spray painting gives a smooth, even finish, and hand painting is easy to touch up.
Can you build an island in my kitchen?
Where space allows, yes. An island needs clear floor around it to open doors and move about, and we check this during the design visit. In a narrow kitchen, a longer run or a peninsula may suit better.
How much time does fitting need?
Every kitchen is different. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the kitchen and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote.
How fitting works for bespoke kitchens
With the carcasses fixed and level, any doors go on and any drawers or lids are fitted. Each one is adjusted until the gaps are even and it closes cleanly. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the kitchen and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. In a period home, the furniture is fitted to walls that are not straight, so there is some trimming and adjusting on site. We protect the floors and keep dust to a minimum. It’s useful to tell us about parking at the measuring visit, as terraced streets are often busy.
- You get in touch and let us know about the room and how you cook. It is useful to know the worktop, sink and appliances you have in mind.
- We visit, measure the walls, floor and ceiling, and go through the design, including where the sink and appliances will go.
- You get a written quote for the cabinets, with the materials and finish set out.
- The units are made and finished in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We fit the cabinets in your home; plumbing, gas and electrics are done by your plumber, an engineer on the Gas Safe Register and your electrician.
Before we arrive
- Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician beforehand
- Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
Ask for a quote
Getting a quote starts with some details: which room it is, rough sizes and a couple of photos if you can take them. When you are ready, drop us a line using the contact form. We will then arrange a design visit and follow it with a quote in writing.
Advice
Kitchens in Grange Mills: local notes
In the area around Grange Mills, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 55%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 15%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. That matters for kitchens, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Near the centre of Grange Mills, Historic England’s list includes The Bedford Hotel (Grade II), less than half a mile south-west, and St Bede's Roman Catholic Primary School (Grade II), under half a mile east. If you live in a listed building, fixing into or taking out original features like panelling may need listed building consent. It is worth speaking to the council’s conservation officer before the design is final. About 55% of homes in the area around Grange Mills were built before 1919, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Kitchens in houses of that age often sit in a narrow back addition, with walls and floors that aren’t true, so each cabinet is levelled and scribed on site.
If you live in a flat close to Balham station, it is useful to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day. If your children go to Henry Cavendish Primary School or a school nearby, a kitchen with a spot for school letters and lunch boxes makes mornings easier.

Could you do it yourself?
Cost matters, and it is fair to say so: flat-pack is normally cheaper to buy. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is tricky, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.
Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that aren’t square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths, which leaves standard units with gaps at the sides and top.
The problems bespoke kitchens solve
Often the call comes after building work has opened up the space. A new layout deserves a kitchen designed for it, and building work itself is for your builder.
People normally get in touch with us about needs like these:
- Spaces sized for your oven and fridge
- Cabinets for a narrow kitchen
- A kitchen island with room around it
- More storage in a small kitchen
Close to Wandsworth Common? A tall cupboard for outdoor things can be part of the kitchen design.
