Fitted Wardrobes in Brixton
In Brixton, we design fitted wardrobes around the room you actually have. We design your fitted wardrobe at a visit to your home, make it in our workshop and fit it.
- Bedroom alcoves that could hold clothes
- Storage boxes stacked under the bed
- A sloping ceiling that is hard to use

Fitted wardrobes in Brixton: what you get
An outside wall is often colder than an inside one, and a wardrobe packed against one can trap moist air. We allow for ventilation behind and within wardrobes on external walls. Moisture-resistant MDF is a sensible choice there too. People typically come to us about a bedroom that never feels tidy and gaps above and around standalone wardrobes; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.
Victorian and Edwardian bedrooms typically have a chimney breast on one wall and a recess either side. A large share of the homes around Brixton date from before 1919, so many bedrooms there may share that layout. Fitted furniture can fill both recesses and bridge the chimney breast with high cupboards. The flue behind is kept ventilated, and any damp is sorted first.
If the job needs another trade, such as an electrician or a plumber, we will tell you. The quote itself covers our work, from the design to the materials and finish.

Flats, blocks and rented homes
For flats on red routes or busy main roads, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so let us know about it at the measuring visit.
Leaseholders should check the lease before anything is fixed to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations, and that is best sorted before fitting day. We can’t advise on your lease.

Questions we are often asked
Is Brixton in the area you cover for fitted wardrobes?
Yes. We cover all of Lambeth and the rest of London, and Brixton is part of that. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and talk through the design, followed by a quote.
How do you fit fitted wardrobes in a flat in Brixton?
We measure the route in along with the room itself: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. It is useful to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.
Do photos help?
Yes, they help. A few pictures of the room, from floor to ceiling, tell us a lot. You can send them when you drop us a line using the contact form.
What happens when you come to measure?
We measure the room, check how level the walls and floors are and go through the design with you. Access and parking are worth talking about too, and afterwards we send a written quote.
Do you move sockets or add lighting?
No. Any new wiring, sockets or lights need an electrician. We’ll design around them.
Does someone need to be home during the fitting?
Someone needs to let us in at the start of the day. It’s good to have someone there at the end to look over the work with us.
Flat-pack or bespoke?
Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there’s typically a gap left over at the top or at one end. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.
Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that are not square. Older London rooms tend to have leaning walls, sloping floors and alcoves of different widths.
Why people ask for fitted wardrobes in Brixton
A move is a common trigger. Standalone wardrobes from a previous home may not fit the new bedroom, or won’t go up the stairs at all. Fitted wardrobes are designed for the room you have now.
People typically get in touch with us about things like these:
- Musty smells in a wardrobe on a cold wall
- Mismatched bedroom furniture
- Gaps above and around standalone wardrobes
- Empty alcoves in the bedroom
If you live in a period home close to Trinity Congregational Church, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where fitted wardrobes go.
Questions to ask before you hire anyone
- Which materials they’ll use, named in the quote
- How the furniture will be finished, and where
- Will the doors close with even gaps?
- Will other trades be needed, and who arranges them?
From workshop to your room
Period rooms often have skirting boards, picture rails, cornices or coving for the furniture to meet. We cut and scribe the furniture around them on site. How long the fitting takes depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. On fitting day, edges are trimmed on site to follow the walls, so a clear area to work in near the room helps. Dust is kept down and cleared up as we go. Hand painting, if that’s your finish, can follow the fitting.
- You contact us about fitted wardrobes.
- At the design visit we measure the room and agree the layout and doors.
- Your written quote follows, setting out the design, materials and finish.
- The wardrobes are made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, then sprayed if you chose a spray finish.
- The wardrobes are fitted and scribed, with any hand painting done in the room.
- Before we leave, we go through the doors and drawers with you. New paint takes time to cure, so treat it gently at first.
How to prepare
- Let us know where the boiler and meters are
- Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
- Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
Ask for a quote
Rough sizes are fine at the start. We measure everything properly at the measuring visit, including how level the floor and ceiling are. To get started, message us from the contact page and let us know about the room. You receive a quote in writing after the visit.
Advice
Brixton homes and fitted wardrobes
In the area around Brixton, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 46%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 18%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. That matters for fitted wardrobes, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Within a mile of the centre of Brixton, 15 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings. Red routes are run by TfL, with tight limits on where and when vehicles can stop. If your street in Brixton joins a main road, it’s worth telling us during the design visit. We can then plan where the van will stop.
Kingswood House, about 2.4 miles south-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, tall ceilings give fitted wardrobes room to reach the cornice. Close to Max Roach Park? Fitted wardrobes are typically planned on the walls away from the window, so the light and the view stay.

Boards, parts and paint
Hanging rails
We keep the top rail at a height you can reach without a step. Shelves above the rails hold things used less often.
Hand-painted finish
A hand-painted finish can be done on site once the wardrobes are fitted. Small marks are simple to touch up, and it works well in a period bedroom.
