Fitted wardrobes in Lambeth

Bedrooms in Lambeth: local notes

In the neighbourhood around Lambeth, the largest groups of homes date from the years since 2000 (about 36%) and before 1919 (about 21%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. We take that into account at the measuring visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. The National Heritage List has 201 entries within half a mile of the centre of Lambeth. Older homes nearby may have original joinery, shutters or panelling worth keeping, and fitted wardrobes can be designed to work around them. About 36% of homes around Lambeth were built since 2000, well above the figure for the rest of London as a whole, about 17%, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Newer homes often have stud walls and compact rooms, so fixings and sizes are planned with that in mind.

If your children go to Vauxhall Primary School or a school nearby, fitted wardrobes in a child’s room can be planned so the inside layout changes as they grow. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, like Woodstock Court, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can require listed building consent. If you live near Old Paradise Gardens, fitted wardrobes are usually planned on the walls away from the window, so the light and the view stay.

Fitted wardrobes in Lambeth

Rail heights are set for the clothes they hold. Long coats and dresses need one tall section, while shirts, jackets and folded trousers suit two rails, one above the other. We also think about who uses it, keeping rails at a height they can reach. If you’re living with not enough hanging space and musty smells in a wardrobe on a cold wall, that is what fitted wardrobes are for, made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.

A large share of the homes around Lambeth date from 2000 onwards, and a newer bedroom seldom comes with storage that fits how you live. Fitted wardrobes can be designed around the window, the radiator and the door swing, so the room still works. Where the flat is in a managed block, check the rules on deliveries and lifts before fitting day.

The written quote is your record of the job. It sets out the fitted wardrobe designed for your room, what it’s made from and how it is finished, and the workshop works from it.

What it costs

The price reflects the time and materials the job needs. The main factors are:

  • Parking near your home
  • How many doors and drawers there are
  • How big the furniture is
  • Tricky walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors

The inside of the furniture affects the price as well: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers all add work. We will talk through what you need inside during the design visit, then set it out in the quote.

What we need to know

The more you can tell us at the start, the better the design visit goes. When you get in touch, it helps to send:

  • Any ideas or images you’ve saved
  • Where you live, with the postcode
  • Rough sizes, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
  • A few pictures of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner

To get a quote for fitted wardrobes in Lambeth, message us from the contact page. Let us know which room it is and roughly what you have in mind. Next comes a design visit, followed by a quote in writing.

Fitting day, step by step

Getting everything level comes first. Floors are often out of level, so adjustable feet or a plinth take up the difference, which keeps the lines straight. After that, it’s fixed to the wall using fixings that suit the wall, whether that is solid brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Newer homes often have finished floors, painted walls and new doors that mark easily, so everything on the way in is covered before the sections arrive. Corners and door frames are covered as well. Once inside, the pieces are joined in place.

  1. You send us some details about the room and the storage you need.
  2. At the design visit, we measure up and plan the doors and the inside with you. We also look at the way in, in case the sections need to go up narrow stairs.
  3. Your quote follows, with the layout, materials and finish set out.
  4. The wardrobes are made in our workshop, using moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit them in your home, levelled and scribed to the walls.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
  • Take anything hanging off the wall we are fitting to
  • Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand

Getting a quote

To make a start, get in touch through our contact form and tell us a little about the room and what you want the furniture to do. We then arrange a design visit to measure and go through the design, and send you a quote in writing afterwards.

Advice

How it’s made

Hand-painted finish

Hand painting lets you judge the colour in the room before the final coat. Scribed edges and joins are painted along with the rest.

Doors and drawer fronts

Doors can be plain, panelled or shaped to suit the room. They’re painted to match or contrast with the walls.

Where other trades come in

Damp treatment and building work are for other specialists, so these points are worth knowing:

  • Treating damp or mould on the walls
  • Building work to create a loft room
  • Removing walls, chimney breasts or any structural work

FAQs: fitted wardrobes in Lambeth

Is Lambeth in the area you cover for fitted wardrobes?

Yes. We cover the whole of London, all 32 boroughs and the City of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and discuss the design, and then we send a quote.

Is parking a problem for fitting in Lambeth?

It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It helps to let us know about parking during the design visit, and we’ll plan around it.

Should I send pictures?

Yes. They give us a feel for the space before we visit, along with rough measurements. It helps to show radiators, sockets and anything else on the wall.

Can a fitted wardrobe go against a cold wall?

Yes. Wardrobes on outside walls are designed with ventilation behind and inside, in moisture-resistant MDF. Any existing damp needs dealing with before fitting.

What happens at the design visit?

It is a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, and the written quote comes afterwards.

Who chooses the colour?

You choose it. We agree the colour with you, and it’s set out in the quote.

Bespoke fitted wardrobes or ready-made?

Older homes rarely have straight walls or level floors. Standalone wardrobes may lean or leave uneven gaps against the wall. Ours are levelled on a plinth or adjustable feet and scribed to the walls. In an open-plan room, standalone pieces can look scattered, while fitted furniture can give the space structure.

In London, parking can affect the price. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay. It helps to talk about parking at the measuring visit, so it can be planned.

Why us?

  • A spray or hand-painted finish
  • Built from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood
  • Fitted tight to walls that aren’t straight
  • Made in our workshop, then fitted in your home
