Fitted wardrobes in Homerton

How we make fitted wardrobes for Homerton

In a period bedroom, the alcoves beside the chimney breast make natural wardrobe spaces. Wardrobes in both alcoves leave the chimney breast on show, and each one is scribed to walls that are rarely straight. We meet the picture rail and cornice neatly, or cut around them. We make fitted wardrobes from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted, and people most often get in touch about too little room for clothes and musty smells in a wardrobe on a cold wall.

In a flat, a spare bedroom often doubles as a study or a guest room, and closed storage lets the room change role without clutter. Purpose-built flats are home to most households around Homerton. Doors and drawers are planned to open fully in the space you have.

The written quote puts the design visit in writing: the layout and internal fittings, the materials and the finish. If something is not quite right, tell us before anything is made.

Fitted bedroom furniture in Homerton

The biggest shares of homes in the streets around Homerton were built before 1919 (about 37%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 21%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. The Clapton Square Conservation Area is close by, within about a quarter of a mile of the centre of Homerton. Being in a conservation area mainly affects changes to the outside of a building, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If you want to be certain, ask the council’s planning team. London’s red routes are run by TfL, and stopping on them is tightly controlled. If your home in Homerton is on or near a main road, tell us at the design visit. We’ll plan where the van can stop.

For a family home near Rushmore Primary School, the inside of fitted wardrobes can be laid out with adjustable shelves, so the space keeps up as children grow. Close to Millfields Park? Keeping fitted wardrobes off the window wall keeps the room bright. For an older house near United Reformed Church, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind fitted wardrobes is part of the design.

Flats, leases and landlords

Landlords furnishing a let use fitted furniture too. It’s made from the same moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood as any of our work.

If your building is on a red route or a busy main road, unloading takes some planning. Red routes are run by TfL and have strict stopping rules, so tell us about it at the design visit.

Honest limits

Damp treatment and building work are for other specialists, and there are a few other limits too:

  • Removing walls, chimney breasts or any structural work
  • Decorating or plastering the room
  • Curing damp, which needs the right specialist

If in doubt, you can tell us about the room on our contact form and describe the room. How a job runs, step by step.

What goes into it

  • Hinged or sliding doors
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Birch plywood
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Hanging rails, shelves and drawers

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Bought wardrobes are made in set sizes, which leaves gaps above and beside them. A fitted wardrobe runs to the ceiling and the walls, so the space is used and there’s nowhere for dust to collect on top. Standard furniture doesn’t allow for boxed-in pipes, risers or meter cupboards, leaving gaps or blocking access. Fitted furniture is built around them.

Parking is part of the price picture in London. Much of London is covered by controlled parking zones, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay near your home. Tell us about parking at the design visit, so it can be planned.

Why choose us

  • Made in moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood
  • Workshop-made and fitted by us
  • Spray painted or hand painted, in the colour you choose
  • Designed for the room you have

See how bespoke compares with ready-made and how to compare quotes.

Could you do it yourself?

It is worth being honest about cost: flat-pack is typically cheaper to buy. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is awkward, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.

Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there’s often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can use the full height and width.

How fitting works for fitted wardrobes

Period rooms often have skirting boards, picture rails, cornices or coving for the furniture to meet. On fitting day, we cut and scribe the furniture around these details, so it looks as though it was always there. How long the fitting takes depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Where there’s no lift, each section is sized to be carried up the stairs safely. The stair turns and landings set the limit. The pieces are assembled in the flat.

  1. You contact us with a short note about the room and the wardrobes you have in mind, and we arrange a design visit.
  2. At the design visit, we measure up and plan the doors and the inside with you. We also look at the way in, in case the sections need to go up narrow stairs.
  3. We send a quote in writing for the wardrobes.
  4. We make the carcasses, doors and drawers in our workshop.
  5. We fit them in your home, levelled and scribed to the walls.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
  • Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street

Advice

Common questions about fitted wardrobes

How do you fit fitted wardrobes in a flat in Homerton?

At the design visit, we measure the way in not just the room. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it’s worth checking those early.

Do you make fitted wardrobes for homes in Homerton?

Yes, we work across Hackney, Homerton included, and across the rest of London. You can use our contact form to arrange a design visit.

Who chooses the colour?

The choice is yours. Whichever finish you pick, it’s in the colour you’ve chosen.

Which is better for fitted wardrobes, hinged or sliding doors?

That depends on how much space there is in front of the wardrobe. If a bed or a door is close, sliding doors can make more sense, and in a roomier space hinged doors give easier access. We look at it with you when we measure.

Can you build wardrobes around a bed?

Yes. Storage around a bed makes good use of a wall that’s often wasted and can include bedside shelves. We measure the bed and the room during the design visit.

How is the price worked out?

Each room is quoted on its own: the size, what goes inside, the finish and how square the room is all count. You will get a written quote once we’ve measured up.
