Fitted home offices in Belsize Park, Camden

In Belsize Park, we design fitted home offices around the room you actually have. Your home office is designed at a visit to your home and made at our workshop.

  • Glare from a window on the screen
  • A corner too odd for a standard desk

Questions from Belsize Park

My home in Belsize Park is a period house with walls that aren’t straight. Is that a problem?

Yes, that is normal in older houses: each piece is scribed to the wall and levelled at the base. Skirting, picture rails and cornices are met neatly or cut around. Older walls can be solid brick or lath and plaster, and the fixings are chosen to suit.

Do you make fitted home offices for homes in Belsize Park?

Yes. We cover all of Camden and the rest of London, and Belsize Park is part of that. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, followed by a quote.

Can you add power points to the desk?

New sockets need an electrician. We plan the furniture around them, with cable routes through the desk and units. They can then be fitted where we’ve allowed for them.

Do I choose the paint colour?

The choice is yours. Whichever finish you pick, it’s in the colour you have chosen.

Do I need to be in when you fit?

Someone needs to be there to let us in. After that, you don’t need to stay in the room, but it is useful to be around at the end.

Which materials go into your home offices?

We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. Birch plywood gives strength to the desk, shelves and drawers, while the doors and panels are MDF, which paints well. Everything is finished by spray painting or hand painting.

Fitted home offices in Belsize Park: what you get

Light matters in a home office. Glare from a window can make a screen tiring to use. We plan the desk position with the window in mind, often with the light to one side. We look at it early at the measuring visit in Belsize Park. If your home has an awkward space with no furniture that fits and wanting to close the door on work at the end of the day, home offices made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish can solve it.

Victorian and Edwardian rooms often have fewer sockets than a modern office needs, so the desk is planned around where they are, with routes for cables built in. If you need more, that’s a job for your electrician before the furniture goes in. Since a large share of homes around Belsize Park date from before 1919, it’s a common thing to plan for.

If the job needs another trade, such as an electrician or a plumber, we will tell you, so it can be arranged before fitting day. Our quote covers the carpentry: the design, the materials and the finish.

Fitted home offices in Belsize Park: local notes

About 46% of the homes in the neighbourhood around Belsize Park went up before 1919, and about 23% between 1945 and 1972, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. That matters for home offices, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. The National Heritage List has 88 entries within half a mile of the centre of Belsize Park. Older homes nearby may have original joinery, shutters or panelling worth keeping, and home offices can be designed to work around them. Purpose-built flats are home to about 54% of households in the area around Belsize Park, the 2021 Census shows. In a block, each section is sized to get up the stairs or into the lift and through the door. Building management rules on lifts, deliveries and working hours are worth checking early.

The wider area includes historic houses such as Keats House, about 0.8 miles north. For a period home anywhere nearby, an alcove beside the chimney breast is often just right for a built-in desk. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Belsize Fire Station, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features. If you live in a period home close to Church of St Mary the Virgin, an alcove beside the chimney breast is often just right for a built-in desk.

How fitting day works

If anything comes up on the day, just ask. The design, materials and finish were settled before anything was made, so the day itself is about careful fitting and leaving the room tidy. How long the fitting takes depends on how much desk, shelving and storage you want, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Where a period house has been split into flats, the way in often goes through shared parts, so neighbours may appreciate a note before fitting day. Each section is sized for the tightest door or turn. Saturday fitting is possible by arrangement.

  1. You get in touch and describe the space you want to work in.
  2. At the design visit we measure up and plan a desk and storage that follow the shape of the room.
  3. Your written quote sets out the design, materials and finish.
  4. In our workshop the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, cut to the angles we measured.
  5. On fitting day each piece is set level and scribed to the walls, so there are no gaps along the edges.
  6. The finish is either sprayed in our workshop or hand-painted once everything is in.

Preparing the room

  • Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
  • Tell us about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
  • Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way

Ask for a quote

If you know what you want, say so; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. The design is talked through at the visit, once we have measured, and the written quote that follows sets it out. To arrange a visit, send us a few details through our contact form.

Advice

Flats, blocks and rented homes

Mansion blocks and purpose-built blocks often have house rules about lifts, entry systems and when trades can come in. Tell us about them during the design visit, so fitting day is planned around them.

In conversions and newer blocks, many internal walls are timber or metal stud with plasterboard. We choose fixings to suit the wall, after checking the walls during the design visit.

Materials and finishes

Moisture-resistant MDF

We use moisture-resistant MDF because it is stable and gives a smooth surface for paint. It is used for the doors, fronts and side panels, where a smooth, even finish matters.

Birch plywood

A home office shelf often carries heavy books and folders. Birch plywood suits them, as it is strong and stiff. Long spans need a thicker shelf, a lip or a support.

What we do not do

We’d rather be clear about where our work stops:

  • Turning an unconverted loft into a room
  • Setting up computers, screens or networks
  • Any wiring or new lights, which need an electrician

If in doubt, you can message us from the contact page and describe the room before you arrange a visit. Our process from visit to fitting.

Materials and parts

  • Hand-painted finish
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Birch plywood
  • Filing drawers
  • Built-in desks
  • Cable routes

What it costs

When we put a quote together, we consider:

  • The internal fittings
  • The finish: spray painted or hand painted
  • How many doors and drawers there are
  • Access to the room, such as stairs, lifts and narrow halls

How it is painted is part of the price: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. The written quote reflects your choice, along with the size and fittings.

What we need to know

What helps most when you first contact us:

  • What you’d like to store or use the space for
  • Approximate measurements of the space
  • Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
  • What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on

Getting a quote starts with a few details: which room it is, rough measurements and a couple of photos if you can take them. When you’re ready, message us from the contact page. We will then arrange a design visit and follow it with a quote in writing.
