Fitted home offices for your home in Fitzrovia

Fitted home offices in Fitzrovia: what you get

Storage keeps a home office calm. Drawers for stationery, cupboards for files and a printer, and shelves for books and folders, so the work surface stays clear. Doors can hide the working things when you are done. For a home in Fitzrovia, we design it all around what you need to store. If your home has a tangle of chargers and leads and no proper place to work from home, home offices made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted can solve it.

Most households around Fitzrovia live in purpose-built flats, and in a flat, working from home normally means sharing space with something else. Home offices can sit in a recess, a corner of the living room or a bedroom wall. Each piece is made in sections sized for the stairs, lift and doors.

Where other trades are needed, for example an electrician to move a socket, we point that out. The quote itself covers our work, from the design to the materials and finish.

Questions we’re often asked

Do you make fitted home offices for homes in Fitzrovia?

Yes. Fitzrovia is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Camden and London. You can drop us a line using the contact form to arrange a design visit.

How do you fit fitted home offices in a flat in Fitzrovia?

At the design visit, we measure the way in not just the room. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. It helps to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.

Can a home office go in a loft room?

Yes, where the loft has already been converted. The desk is placed where there is headroom to sit and stand comfortably, and the low space under the slope can hold storage. We do not carry out loft conversions.

Can you build a home office in an alcove?

It depends on the width and depth of the alcove. Plenty of alcoves suit a small desk, with shelving above and drawers below. We’ll tell you honestly when we visit.

What if my walls and floors are out of level?

It is something we deal with all the time. The furniture is scribed to follow the walls and levelled on feet or a plinth, so it sits tight to the room.

Do pictures help?

Yes, they help. Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space. To send them, use our contact form.

Working from home in Fitzrovia

The biggest shares of homes in the neighbourhood around Fitzrovia were built before 1919 (about 38%) and since 2000 (about 21%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. 25 conservation areas have at least part of their area within a mile of central Fitzrovia. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of inner London. A van working in Fitzrovia will usually need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension arranged through the council, which often needs notice. Parking is worth mentioning during the design visit, so the day can be planned around it.

For families living near All Souls CofE Primary School, a desk long enough for two can serve a laptop and a homework book side by side. For a flat near London Euston station, it is useful to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day.

Why people ask for fitted home offices in Fitzrovia

Many spare rooms need to work as an office and a guest room. A built-in desk and storage can leave space for a bed. It puts the room to work most of the time.

Here are some of the needs we are asked about most:

  • Files and folders piling up
  • An alcove or landing that could take a desk
  • A laptop that moves from room to room
  • Glare from a window on the screen

What to check before you book

  • Which parts of the job need an electrician or a plumber
  • Will the doors close with even gaps?
  • Is it spray painted or hand painted?
  • How they’ll get the furniture into the room

Choosing a carpenter in London: a checklist

From workshop to your room

With the carcasses fixed and level, any doors go on and any drawers or lids are fitted. We adjust each one so the gaps line up and it closes cleanly. The time the fitting takes depends on how much desk, shelving and storage you want, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Some buildings have a concierge, a lift booking system or set working hours, so it’s worth checking with the managing agent beforehand. Floors in the flat and the common parts are protected while the furniture comes in.

  1. You get in touch and describe the space you want to work in.
  2. At the design visit we measure up and plan a desk and storage that follow the shape of the room.
  3. Your written quote sets out the design, materials and finish.
  4. Everything is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit the office in your home, trimming the edges to follow the walls and ceiling.
  6. Your spray-painted or hand-painted finish completes the office.

Getting ready for fitting day

Ask for a quote

The design visit is where every quote starts. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and discuss the design with you. Afterwards, we send a written quote for you to look over. To book one, message us from the contact page.

Could you do it yourself?

Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there is often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.

Cost matters, and it is fair to say so: flat-pack is normally cheaper to buy. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is awkward, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.

Flats, conversions and lettings

If you live in a flat, getting the furniture in is planned from the start. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doorways not just the room, so each section is sized to get through.

Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. If there is a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Tell us about it when you get in touch.

What it’s made from

Pull-out drawers

Drawers under a desk keep stationery and papers to hand. Deeper drawers can take files. Each one is sized for what it holds.

Doors and drawer fronts

Doors can close over shelves, files or a printer. They can be plain or panelled, with handles chosen to suit the room. When you finish, the doors close on work.
