Loft storage for homes in Hither Green

Behind an eaves door, there is often insulation and a need for ventilation. We design the storage so it does not block airflow or crush insulation. If you have concerns about what’s behind the eaves, ask the people who did the conversion. We look at this at the measuring visit in Hither Green. If your home has needing storage in a loft office and low eaves that nobody can use, that’s what eaves cupboards are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.

A Victorian or Edwardian terrace typically has a long, narrow hall leading to the stairs. Around Hither Green, a large share of homes date from before 1919, so depth matters as much as width wherever storage goes. Shallow units keep the way through clear.

If the job needs another trade, like an electrician or a plumber, we’ll tell you, so it can be arranged before fitting day. The quote itself covers our work, from the design to the materials and finish.

What it costs

Prices vary from room to room, and it comes down to:

  • How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
  • Doors and drawers, and how many
  • Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
  • Parking near your home

Getting to the room affects the job as well. Narrow halls, tight stairs or a small lift may mean the furniture is made in more sections, and that’s part of the price. Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design.

Before the design visit

When you contact us, these help most:

  • Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
  • Rough sizes, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
  • Your postcode and the borough
  • What you’d like to store or use the space for

Getting a quote starts with some details: the room, rough measurements and some photos if you have them. To send them, fill in our short enquiry form. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and talk through the design, then send a quote in writing.

Your questions about loft storage in Hither Green

I live near Hither Green station. Is that in your area?

Yes, homes across Lewisham and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can get in touch through our contact form with a few details about the room.

Is Hither Green in the area you cover for loft storage?

Yes. We cover all of Lewisham and the rest of London, and Hither Green is part of that. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, and then we send a quote.

My walls are not straight. Is that a problem?

It is something we deal with all the time. We trim the edges to follow the wall and level the base, so it sits tight to the room.

Will cupboards in the eaves stop air moving?

Not when it is planned well. At the design visit we check what’s there and leave the space it needs. We don’t alter insulation or vents.

Can you convert my loft as well?

No, we build storage in lofts that are already converted or boarded. A conversion is building work, and Building Regulations apply. When the room is finished, we can plan the storage.

Can you come on a Saturday?

Yes, by arrangement. Tell us when you contact us if a Saturday suits you best.

Do you need loft storage in Hither Green?

Some people want to hide clutter in the eaves. Eaves cupboards keep them out of sight. The room stays calm and clear.

If you recognise any of these, it is worth talking to us:

  • Needing storage in a loft office
  • An empty dormer that could hold shelves
  • A converted loft with no fitted furniture
  • Space under the eaves going to waste

Close to Manor House Gardens? Living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and eaves cupboards can give those things a place.

Choosing a carpenter

  • How the furniture will be finished, and where
  • Can you see real work of theirs?
  • Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?
  • A written quote that sets out the job

Choosing a carpenter in London: a checklist

What happens on fitting day

On the morning of the fitting, the first job is covering the floors and protecting the way in from the front door. The sections made at our workshop come in next, one at a time. How long fitting takes depends on how much storage you want in the loft, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Parking on terraced streets can be tight, especially in a controlled parking zone, so it helps to tell us at the design visit what’s outside. The van is unloaded quickly, with the sections carried straight in. Saturday fitting can be arranged.

  1. It starts with some details from you.
  2. At the design visit we measure up and agree the layout and colour.
  3. Your written quote sets out the design, materials and finish.
  4. We make the cupboards and drawers in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. The storage is fitted and scribed to the slopes, and any hand painting is done on site.
  6. Fresh paint needs time to cure, so use the doors and drawers gently at first.

How to prepare

  • Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
  • Let us know about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
  • Take anything hanging off the wall we’re fitting to

Getting a quote

If you know what you want, say so; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. The design is talked through at the visit, once we have measured, and the written quote that follows sets it out. To start, tell us about the room on our contact form.

What loft storage can’t fix

Damp treatment and building work are for other specialists, so these points are worth knowing:

  • Structural changes, such as cutting into rafters or joists
  • Anything that needs Building Regulations sign-off
  • Adding or replacing insulation

Materials and finishes

Plinths and scribe strips

Scribe strips are trimmed to follow the wall and the slope. They help the storage look as though it was always there. At floor level, the plinth hides any slope in the floor.

Spray-painted finish

A spray-painted finish works well on every part of the storage. We do it in our workshop, where the finish can be kept even. Any paint colour agreed with you can be used.
