Loft storage for your home in Nine Elms

Loft storage in Nine Elms

Many loft rooms are bedrooms, and storage for clothes is the first need. A wardrobe under the slope, knee-wall drawers and dormer shelves make a complete set. Designed as one, they give the room calm, consistent lines. For a home in Nine Elms, it is planned around your things. Typical reasons to get in touch are a loft room that still feels unfinished and ready-made wardrobes too big for the stairs, and the answer is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.

Newer homes often have plain spaces left as they are: a recess beside the stairs, a gap by a window, an empty cupboard. Around Nine Elms, many homes were built since 2000, so spaces like that are worth a second look. The layout inside is planned to use the full depth.

Our quotes are written in plain words. They say what will be made, what it is made from and how it will be finished.

When is bespoke worth it?

What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.

Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that are not square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths, and standard units leave gaps.

Your questions about loft storage in Nine Elms

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Nine Elms?

It can be, as controlled parking zones cover much of inner London. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit.

I live near Battersea Park station. Is that in your area?

Yes. We cover all of Wandsworth and the rest of London. You can fill in our short enquiry form to arrange a design visit.

How long will the loft storage fitting take?

How long the fitting takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. We make the cupboards and drawers in our workshop, so the time at your home is spent fitting. If you’d like the fitting on a Saturday, that can be arranged.

Can I send pictures ahead of the visit?

Yes, they help. A few pictures of the room, from floor to ceiling, tell us a lot. You can send them when you fill in our short enquiry form.

Will the storage fit up my loft stairs?

Every piece is made in sections that fit up the stairs. At the design visit, we measure the loft stairs, the turns and the landings. It means a full wardrobe can still reach the room.

Will eaves storage block the ventilation?

Not if it’s planned with care. The storage is planned around the insulation and ventilation behind the knee wall. For worries about existing insulation or vents, ask the people who did the conversion.

Fitting day, step by step

However carefully a piece is made in the workshop, it still has to meet the room, and that happens on fitting day. Few walls in older London homes are truly flat or square, so we scribe the edges by hand to follow the wall, until the line is tight. How long the fitting itself takes depends on the length of the eaves and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Stud walls can carry pipes and cables, so we check before drilling, and heavy pieces are fixed into the studs or stand on the floor. Any new sockets or plumbing are for your electrician or plumber, ideally before fitting day.

  1. You tell us about the loft room.
  2. At the design visit we measure up and agree the layout and colour.
  3. Your written quote sets out the design, materials and finish.
  4. The storage is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, and sprayed there if you chose a spray finish.
  5. The storage is fitted and scribed to the slopes, and any hand painting is done on site.
  6. Go easy on new paintwork while it cures; hand-painted surfaces are easy to touch up later.

How to prepare

  • Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street
  • Clear the walls of pictures and shelves

Do you need loft storage in Nine Elms?

A new loft conversion often needs storage to finish it. Standard furniture rarely suits the new room. Storage made for the slopes completes it.

Here are some of the needs we are asked about most:

  • A boarded loft that is hard to keep organised
  • An empty dormer that could hold shelves
  • Standard furniture that will not go up the loft stairs
  • Seasonal things cluttering the loft room

Carlyle's House, about 1.1 miles west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, the low eaves and slopes of a converted loft are worth using.

What to check before you book

  • Can you see real work of theirs?
  • Which materials they’ll use, named in the quote
  • Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?
  • Have they thought about parking near you?

How to choose a carpenter in London

Nine Elms homes and loft storage

Homes built since 2000 make up about 43% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Nine Elms, with about 28% built before 1919, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. The Churchill Gardens Conservation Area is close by, within about a quarter of a mile of the centre of Nine Elms. Being in a conservation area mainly affects changes to the outside of a building, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If you want to be certain, ask the council’s planning team. Near central London, streets tend to be narrow and busy, so carrying the sections from the van to the door takes planning, particularly for larger pieces.

Close to Pimlico Gardens? Living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and eaves cupboards can give those things a place. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Battersea Power Station, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.

Flats, conversions and lettings

If you live in a flat, getting the furniture in is planned from the start. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doorways as well as the room, so each section is sized to get through.

If the property is let, we’ll need access agreed with the tenants, at times that suit them. A letting agent can arrange this on a landlord’s behalf, and the written quote can go to whoever needs it.

What we don’t do

Before you plan the job, it helps to know what we don’t do:

  • Building Regulations approval for a conversion
  • Altering the structure of the loft
  • Building work to turn a loft into a room

If in doubt, you can get in touch through our contact form and describe the room. How it works.
