Flats, conversions and lettings

If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations. We can’t give advice on leases, so check it yourself or ask your managing agent.

Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. If there’s a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Tell us about it when you contact us.

Walk-in wardrobes in Ratcliff: what you get

You can have doors, open storage or a mix. Doors give a tidy, finished look and help keep dust away, while open storage lets you see everything at once. The choice is yours, and we’ll go through it when we measure. People usually come to us about turning a box room into a dressing room and a side each for a couple; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.

In a compact bedroom, the wall above the door and over the bed is often unused. Since most households around Ratcliff live in purpose-built flats, bridging those spaces with fitted cupboards can add a lot of storage. Top cupboards suit things you need only now and then.

The furniture is made in our workshop after you’ve had the quote and decided to go ahead. The quote sets out the agreed design, materials and finish, so you can check every detail beforehand.

When is bespoke worth it?

Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it’s easy to buy.

The real difference is in the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.

Fitting day, step by step

Period rooms often have skirting boards, picture rails, cornices or coving for the furniture to meet. On fitting day, we cut and scribe the furniture around these details. How long fitting takes depends on how much hanging, shelving and drawer space goes in, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Loading near a block of flats can take some planning, so details of bays, permits or a loading area help. The sections are assembled in the flat and fixed to suit the walls. Saturday fitting is possible by prior arrangement.

Starting with a design visit

Getting a quote starts with a few details: the room, rough measurements and some photos if you have them. To send them, message us from the contact page. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and talk through the design, then send a quote in writing.

Hanging rails

Two rails stacked one above the other suit shirts, jackets and trousers.

Spray-painted finish

For a sleek finish, spray painting works well, and it is done before fitting.

FAQs: walk-in wardrobes in Ratcliff

Is parking a problem for fitting in Ratcliff?

It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It is useful to let us know about parking at the design visit, so we can plan the day around it.

Can you make walk-in wardrobes for a home in Ratcliff?

Yes, we work across Tower Hamlets, Ratcliff included, and across the rest of London. You can use our contact form to arrange a design visit.

What does a walk-in wardrobe cost?

We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. A box room with rails and shelves and a full dressing room with drawers and a dressing table are very different jobs, so we quote once we have measured. To get started, fill in our short enquiry form.

Should I send pictures?

Yes, they help. A few pictures of the room, from floor to ceiling, tell us a lot. You can send them when you tell us about the room on our contact form.

Can you fit furniture on an external wall?

It needs a little planning: leaving ventilation behind and inside helps stop condensation. Damp treatment isn’t something we do, so any damp needs sorting first.

Do I choose the paint colour?

The choice is yours, and it is agreed with you before painting. Whichever finish you pick, it’s in the colour you’ve chosen.

Ratcliff homes and walk-in wardrobes

About 33% of the homes in the neighbourhood around Ratcliff went up between 1973 and 1999, and about 29% since 2000, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Within a mile of the centre of Ratcliff, 20 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings. The ULEZ, run by TfL, takes in all of London, so Tower Hamlets is inside it. It applies to the vans that deliver and fit furniture in Ratcliff, as it does anywhere else in London. Access and parking are talked through during the design visit.

If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Church of St Paul, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features may need listed building consent. The wider area includes historic houses like Mansion House, about 1.9 miles west. For a period home anywhere nearby, tall ceilings give walk-in wardrobes room to reach the cornice. For families living near Marion Richardson Primary School, the inside of walk-in wardrobes can be laid out with adjustable shelves, so the space keeps up as children grow.

Ratcliff is within the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, about 1 mile west of Whitechapel. Ratcliff is part of the area we cover. Ratcliff is one of the places in Tower Hamlets where we make walk-in wardrobes, and the borough has 31 places on our list.

How we price walk-in wardrobes

Prices vary from room to room, for these reasons:

  • How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
  • How many doors and drawers there are
  • Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
  • Parking near your home

Rooms that aren’t square take more work: uneven walls, sloping floors and angled ceilings all add scribing and cutting on site. That’s reflected in the quote, which we write after seeing the room.

What we need to know

Here’s what helps us most when you contact us:

  • A few photos of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
  • Rough sizes, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
  • The type of home and how the room is reached
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit

Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. Each room is different, so we quote after seeing it, once the room is measured and the design talked through. To arrange a visit, use our contact form.
