Wall Beds in Crofton Park

We make wall beds for homes in Crofton Park, designed around the room you have. Your wall bed is designed at a visit to your home and made at our workshop.

  • A guest room that sits empty most of the time
  • Storage built around a fold-down bed
  • A home office that also sleeps guests

Need wall beds in Crofton Park?

Is it time for wall beds?

In a studio or a small flat, every bit of floor counts. A bed that folds up gives you a living room in the day and a bedroom at night.

These come up often when people first get in touch:

  • A guest room that sits empty most of the time
  • A hobby room with a bed for guests
  • A living room with a bed that folds away
  • A home office that also sleeps guests

If your children go to Stillness Infant School or a school nearby, hanging rails set low at first can be raised later, as children get taller.

  • Whether the quote says what the furniture is made from
  • How they deal with uneven walls and floors

Choosing a carpenter in London: a checklist

How we make wall beds for Crofton Park

The cabinet is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish. From the front, the folded bed can look like a set of tall cupboards, so the room doesn’t read as a bedroom by day. People typically come to us about a bed that fills a little-used room and a study that doubles as a spare room; the furniture is made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

With a large share of homes around Crofton Park built before 1919, plenty of bedrooms have solid brick external walls. Cold external walls can lead to condensation, so ventilation behind and inside the furniture is part of the design. Smaller back bedrooms in houses of that age are good places for wall beds.

You get the quote in writing, so you can read it at your own pace. It covers the design, materials and finish agreed at the visit.

Flats, conversions and lettings

A lot of London’s terraced houses are now converted flats, and that often means a shared hallway and a tight turn on the stairs. Each section is sized with that in mind.

Mansion blocks and purpose-built blocks often have house rules about lifts, entry systems and when trades can come in. Let us know about them during the design visit.

Questions from Crofton Park

Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?

Normally not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character can need listed building consent from the council. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.

My house in Crofton Park is Victorian. Can you deal with uneven walls?

Yes. Walls in older houses are rarely flat or square, and floors are often out of level, so each piece is scribed to follow the wall and set level on a plinth or adjustable feet. Skirting, picture rails and cornices are met neatly or cut around. Older walls can be solid brick or lath and plaster, and the fixings are chosen to suit.

Who chooses the colour?

You choose it. Spray and hand-painted finishes both use the colour you have chosen.

Do I need to be in when you fit?

We need access, so someone has to let us in. You do not need to watch us work, though we like to go over the furniture with you at the end.

What are your wall beds made from?

Moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, depending on the part and the design. Your quote sets out the materials.

Do photos help?

Yes, they help. A few pictures of the room, from floor to ceiling, tell us a lot. You can send them when you send us a few details through our contact form.

From workshop to your room

Period rooms often have skirting boards, picture rails, cornices or coving for the furniture to meet. On fitting day, we cut and scribe the furniture around these details, so it sits neatly against the room. How long fitting takes depends on the bed, the cabinets and the wall it fixes to, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Terraced streets in London are often lined with parked cars, so it is useful to tell us at the measuring visit what’s outside. Unloading is kept short, with sections taken straight inside. Saturday fitting can be arranged.

  1. We start with what the room is for, day and night.
  2. We visit, measure up and check the wall the bed will fix to.
  3. We send a quote setting out the design, materials and finish, for you to look over.
  4. We build and finish the bed housing and storage in our workshop, from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. The bed and cabinets are fitted in your home and the mechanism fixed securely. The finish is sprayed in our workshop or painted by hand on site.

Before fitting day

  • Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
  • Make sure pets are kept safely away
  • Empty the space we’ll be working in

Getting a quote

Photos help us understand the room before we visit. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line tell us a lot about the space, along with rough sizes. To send them over, send us a few details through our contact form, and we’ll arrange a design visit.

Advice

Where other trades come in

Before you plan the job, it helps to know what we don’t do:

  • Strengthening or rebuilding a wall
  • Making good the walls after other work
  • New sockets, lighting or wiring (your electrician)

If in doubt, you can message us from the contact page and describe the room. How it works.

What it’s made from

  • Spray-painted finish
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Shelves or a desk alongside
  • Fold-down bed mechanism
  • Birch plywood
  • Moisture-resistant MDF

What it is made from

Spray-painted finish

For a sleek front, spray painting works well and is finished before it reaches you.

Shelves

Shelf spans and depths are sized so they don’t sag.
