Fitted cupboards in Surrey Quays

Landings often have a corner or a stretch of wall that does nothing. A fitted cupboard there can hold towels, bedding and the things that never quite find a home, with shelves set at the heights you choose. We plan it so doors open without catching the stairs or the banister. If your home has tall cupboards where space is short and space for laundry, cleaning things and boots, that’s what fitted cupboards are for, made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.

Many homes around Surrey Quays were built since 2000, and in a newer house with a converted loft, the eaves and slopes are worth using. For lofts, the storage goes into spaces that are already converted or boarded. Elsewhere, fitted storage is fixed to plasterboard walls with fixings that suit it.

We write quotes in plain English, without jargon. They say what will be made, what it’s made from and how it will be finished, all taken from the design visit.

What it costs

What you pay depends on:

  • The width and height of the space
  • Where a van can park, such as a permit bay or a bay suspension
  • How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
  • Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish

We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit. After that, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish all play a part.

What to send when you contact us

When you contact us, these help most:

  • What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
  • Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
  • Rough sizes: width, height and depth

We quote once we have seen the room. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and go through the design with you, then send a written quote. Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. To book a design visit, send us a few details through our contact form.

From workshop to your room

Every fitting follows the same order: floors are protected, the sections come in, everything is levelled, scribed to the walls, fixed and finished. Then the room is tidied and we look over the work with you. How long the fitting takes depends on how many cupboards there are and where they go, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. In a newer development, the lift, the concierge and set working hours may all need checking, so it is useful to sort them out ahead of time. Fitted cupboards are made in sections sized for the lift and doors.

  1. First, you let us know about the room and what it needs.
  2. The design visit covers measuring and the layout inside, with a note of anything that must stay reachable.
  3. A written quote is sent to you.
  4. Everything is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit the cupboards in your home and check every door.

How to prepare

  • If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street
  • Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall

Starting with a design visit

Photos help us understand the room before we visit. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them give us a good feel for the space, along with rough measurements. To send them over, get in touch through our contact form, and we will suggest a time for a design visit.

Questions from Surrey Quays

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Surrey Quays station?

Yes, homes across Southwark and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can drop us a line using the contact form with some details about the room.

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Surrey Quays?

It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It’s useful to let us know about parking at the design visit, so the day can be planned around it.

Can I send photos before the visit?

Yes, they help. Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space, especially with rough sizes. You can send them when you send us a few details through our contact form.

Can you fit cupboards to walls that aren’t straight?

Yes, that is part of the job. Few walls in a period house are straight, so every cupboard is scribed and levelled.

How long does fitting take?

The time the fitting takes depends on the number of cupboards and the space they fit into, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. We’ll talk it through at the design visit.

Do I choose the paint colour?

You choose it. Whichever finish you pick, it is in the colour you have chosen.

How it is made

Spray-painted finish

A spray-painted finish is applied in our workshop, giving a smooth, even surface. The colour is agreed with you.

Doors and drawer fronts

Doors can be flat, framed or panelled, painted to match the cupboard. Drawers can sit below for shoes or smaller things.

The problems fitted cupboards solve

A new utility room or boot room often prompts the call. Washing machines, dryers, coats, boots and cleaning things all need a place, and a run of fitted cupboards can hold them neatly.

Here’s what fitted cupboards can help with:

  • A neat cupboard around the boiler
  • Landing shelves for bedding and towels
  • Storage in a corner nothing else fits
  • Cupboards for a utility or boot room
