Need walk-in wardrobes in Oval?
When is bespoke worth it?
Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that are not square. Older London rooms tend to have leaning walls, sloping floors and alcoves of different widths, which leaves standard units with gaps at the sides and top.
The real difference is in the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. Off-the-shelf furniture can’t usually do that in an older room.
How we make walk-in wardrobes for Oval
A walk-in wardrobe needs air moving through it, particularly on an external wall, which can be colder than internal walls. Good ventilation helps avoid condensation and mould, and we design the units to allow for it. We make walk-in wardrobes from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted, and the things people most often want solved are a walk-in wardrobe within the bedroom and a bedroom without crowded wardrobes.
Around Oval, most households live in purpose-built flats, and blocks often have rules on lift booking, deliveries and working hours. Checking with the building’s managing agent early keeps the day running smoothly. A leasehold flat may need consent for fixing to walls, so check your lease first.
If the job needs another trade, like an electrician or a plumber, we’ll tell you, so it can be arranged before fitting day. The quote itself covers our work, from the design to the materials and finish.

What affects the cost of walk-in wardrobes
What you pay depends on:
- Awkward walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
- Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
- The internal fittings
- Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
There’s no price list, because each job is designed for a single room. Instead, we measure, go through the design and then quote in writing, naming the materials and finish. To start, get in touch through our contact form.
Before the design visit
The more you can tell us at the start, the better the design visit goes. It’s useful to include:
- Your postcode and the borough
- Whether it’s a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
- Rough measurements: width, height and depth
- Anything in the way, such as radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
If you know what you want, say so; if you do not, that’s fine, and we can work it out together. The design is talked through at the visit, once we’ve measured, and the written quote that follows sets it out. To arrange a visit, send us a few details through our contact form.
How fitting works for walk-in wardrobes
In older rooms, the furniture typically has to meet skirting, picture rails, cornice or coving. We cut and scribe the furniture around them on site. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and your quote sets out the fitting days. For a flat, the stairs, landings, lift and doors are measured along with the room itself: walk-in wardrobes are made in sections sized for each of them. Some older blocks have small lifts or none, which the design allows for.
- You get in touch with some details about the room.
- We visit, measure and talk through hanging, shoe storage and a dressing table, planned around the way you get dressed.
- You receive a written quote.
- The units are made at our workshop.
- We fit everything in your home and check every door and drawer.
Preparing the room
- Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
- Clear the area where the furniture is going
- Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone

Why people ask for walk-in wardrobes in Oval
Some want somewhere to sit and get ready. A dressing table with drawers and a mirror can sit within a walk-in wardrobe, close to the clothes and shoes.
Here are some of the needs we are asked about most:
- A bedroom without crowded wardrobes
- Room for two wardrobes in one space
- A walk-in wardrobe within the bedroom
- Room for a growing wardrobe
If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Church of St Mark, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can need listed building consent.
Before you choose who makes it
- Have they measured the stairs, lift and doorways?
- Will the doors close with even gaps?
- How parking will work on your street
- Can you see real work of theirs?
FAQs: walk-in wardrobes in Oval
Is parking a problem for fitting in Oval?
It can be, as controlled parking zones cover much of inner London. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit.
Do you make walk-in wardrobes for homes in Oval?
Yes, Oval is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Lambeth and the rest of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, and then we send a quote.
Do I need to be at home on fitting day?
Someone needs to be there to let us in. You don’t need to watch us work, though we like to go over the furniture with you at the end.
Do you move sockets or add lighting?
No. Any new wiring, sockets or lights need an electrician. We plan the furniture around where they’ll go.
Do you work on Saturdays?
Yes, we can arrange Saturdays. Let us know when you first get in touch, and we will see what we can do.
What does a walk-in wardrobe cost?
The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. The size of the room, the layout and the finish all make a difference. For a design visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.
Bespoke walk-in wardrobes or ready-made?
Open rail systems are simple and adaptable, and that has real appeal. Bespoke joinery lets you mix doors, drawers, shelves and hanging, painted to match the room. In a flat, every bit of floor counts, and standalone furniture uses more of it than it needs. Built-in pieces use the full height and the tricky corners, leaving more floor clear.
Getting to the room affects the job as well. Narrow halls, tight stairs or a small lift may mean the furniture is made in more sections, and that’s part of the price. Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design.

Walk-in wardrobes in Oval: local notes
In the streets around Oval, the largest groups of homes date from the years since 2000 (about 32%) and before 1919 (about 26%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). That matters for walk-in wardrobes, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Oval is partly covered by the Vauxhall Conservation Area, one of the conservation areas recorded by Historic England. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. The council can confirm if you’re not sure. Red routes, run by TfL, have strict rules on stopping and loading. If your home in Oval is on or near a main road, tell us at the design visit. We will plan where the van can stop.
For a family home near St Stephen's Church of England Primary School, a mix of drawers and shelves copes with school uniform as well as everything else. If you live in a flat close to Vauxhall station, it helps to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day.
