Crofton Park Loft Storage

In Crofton Park, we design loft storage around the room you actually have. Your eaves cupboard is designed at a visit to your home and built in our workshop.

  • A new loft conversion that needs storage
  • Wasted space behind the knee walls
  • Seasonal things cluttering the loft room

Loft storage designed for your room

Loft storage in Crofton Park

A dormer can take shelves, a desk or a window seat. Their sides are often angled, and their walls rarely straight. We scribe the furniture to follow them. It uses space that might otherwise be wasted. At the design visit in Crofton Park, we will look at what fits. We make eaves cupboards from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and people most often get in touch about a sloping ceiling with no room for a wardrobe and nowhere to store bags and boxes.

Original features like shutters, cupboard doors and panelling are worth keeping where they survive. With a large share of the homes around Crofton Park built before 1919, new storage can be made to sit beside them rather than replace them. Panel details can be drawn to suit the house. If your home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original joinery.

The quote comes in writing, so you can read it at your own pace and share it with anyone else involved. It covers the design, materials and finish agreed at the visit.

Questions we’re often asked

Can you fit loft storage to the uneven walls of an older house in Crofton Park?

Yes. Walls in older houses are rarely flat or square, and floors are often out of level, so each piece is scribed to follow the wall and set level on a plinth or adjustable feet. We also work around skirting boards, picture rails and cornices. Older walls can be solid brick or lath and plaster, and the fixings are chosen to suit.

Do you make loft storage for homes in Crofton Park?

Yes. We cover all of Lewisham and the rest of London, and Crofton Park is part of that. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, and then we send a quote.

Do I need planning permission for fitted furniture?

Normally not. Inside a house, fitted furniture doesn’t normally need planning permission. If the building is listed, works affecting its character can need listed building consent, so ask the council’s conservation officer.

Will eaves storage block the ventilation?

Not if it is planned with care. The storage is planned around the insulation and ventilation behind the knee wall. If you have concerns about what’s already behind the eaves, it is worth asking whoever converted the loft.

Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?

There are two options: a spray finish from the workshop, which is smooth and even, or hand painting, which can be done in your home. The finish is agreed in your quote.

Do you move sockets or add lighting?

No. Any new wiring, sockets or lights need an electrician, and some electrical work in homes is covered by Part P of the Building Regulations. We’ll design around them.

What it’s made from

Doors and drawer fronts

The doors and drawer fronts are the face of the storage. We make them plain or panelled, with handles to match. Their tops follow the line of the slope.

Moisture-resistant MDF

Because it cuts cleanly, MDF is ideal for angled panels under the slope. The grade we use is moisture-resistant and paints well. It makes up most of the visible parts.

How fitting day works

On the morning of the fitting, we start by protecting your floors and the route from the front door to the room. Next, we carry in the sections made at our workshop. How long fitting takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Older London houses often have narrow hallways and tight turns on the stairs, so eaves cupboards are made in sections sized to get through. Floors, stairs and doorways are covered before anything is carried through.

  1. You let us know about the loft room.
  2. At the design visit we measure up and agree the layout and colour.
  3. A quote in writing follows.
  4. We make the cupboards and drawers in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit it in the loft and check each door and drawer with you.
  6. Fresh paint needs time to cure, so use the doors and drawers gently at first.

Before we arrive

  • Clear the area where the furniture is going
  • Make sure pets are kept safely away
  • Leave a clear route from the front door to the room

Is bespoke worth it?

A standalone wardrobe can go with you when you move. Fitted storage stays put, and it makes far more of the loft. The right choice depends on how long you plan to stay. Standard units assume square rooms, and period homes seldom have them, so it leaves gaps at the wall, tilts on sloping floors or sits awkwardly against skirting and picture rails. Fitted furniture is scribed to the wall instead.

How it’s painted is part of the price: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. The written quote reflects your choice, along with the size and fittings.

How we price loft storage

To work out the quote, we look at:

  • The finish: spray painted or hand painted
  • The overall size of the piece
  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
  • The internal fittings

No two rooms cost the same to furnish, because the size, the layout and the finish all vary. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. You will see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.

What to send when you get in touch

Here’s what helps us most when you contact us:

  • Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
  • Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
  • What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
  • Where you live, with the postcode

Is it time for loft storage?

Some people have a boarded loft and want proper shelving. Storage in a boarded loft keeps everything organised. It’s ideal for things you need now and then.

A few of the things people ask us to solve include:

  • No wardrobe that fits under the slope
  • A loft room with too many jobs
  • Boxes and suitcases with no home
  • Boxes piled on loft boards

For a family home near Stillness Infant School, eaves cupboards can give school bags, shoes and sports kit a proper home.

Questions to ask before you hire anyone

  • Real projects you can actually look at
  • A quote in writing that sets out the job
  • Which parts of the job need an electrician or a plumber
