Northwick Park Window Seats
Planning window seats for a home in Northwick Park? It starts with a design visit to measure and talk through ideas, then a quote in writing, before anything is made.
- A room with shutters and sashes that deserves a proper seat
- A bay window that’s hard to furnish
- A sash window with space beneath it going to waste

Window seats for homes in Northwick Park
A window seat turns the light by a window into a place to sit. We design and make window seats for bays, sash windows and recesses, often with storage underneath behind a lift-up lid or drawers. In Northwick Park, as everywhere we work, it begins with a visit to measure and plan. We make window seats from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed, and the usual reasons to get in touch are needing more storage in the room and a bay with no furniture that fits.
A large number of homes around Northwick Park date from 2000 onwards, and newer homes often have little built-in storage. Fitted storage can turn a hallway recess, a landing or the space under the stairs into somewhere useful. Walls in newer homes are often plasterboard on timber or metal studs, so the fixings are chosen for that.
The written quote is your record of the job. It describes the window seat we’ve designed for the room, its materials and its finish.

How we price window seats
What it costs comes down to the materials and the time involved. That depends on:
- The width and height of the space
- The finish: spray painted or hand painted
- Parking and unloading on your street
- How many doors and drawers there are
No two rooms cost the same to furnish, because the size, the layout and the finish all vary. Spray painting and hand painting are different processes, which affects the cost. The figure comes in your written quote after the design visit.
Before the design visit
What helps most when you first contact us:
- Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
- Any ideas or images you have saved
- Whether it is a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
- Rough measurements: width, height and depth
The design visit is where every quote starts. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and go through the design with you. Afterwards, we send a written quote for you to look over. To arrange the visit, message us from the contact page.
Bespoke window seats or ready-made?
Off-the-shelf benches come in the maker’s finishes. Ours is spray-painted or hand-painted in a colour agreed with you, so it can match the woodwork or the walls. Ready-made units fixed to stud walls are often held by fixings that do not suit the board. Fitted furniture is planned with fixings into the studs or made for the board, and heavy pieces can stand on the floor.
There is no price list, because each job is designed for a single room. Instead, we measure, go through the design and then quote in writing, naming the materials and finish. To arrange a design visit, fill in our short enquiry form.
Why us?
- Built in our workshop and fitted in your home
- Fitted tight to walls that aren’t straight
- Made for your room, not a standard size
- Spray painted or hand painted, in the colour you choose

Window seats for homes in Northwick Park
The biggest shares of homes in the neighbourhood around Northwick Park were built since 2000 (about 39%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 35%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. Part of Northwick Park is in a conservation area, according to Historic England’s records. Being in a conservation area mainly affects changes to the outside of a building, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If you want to be certain, ask the council’s planning team. Strict stopping rules apply on red routes, which TfL runs. Where a home in Northwick Park is on or beside a main road, it helps to mention that during the design visit. We’ll plan where the van can stop.
If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Parish Church of St Mary, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features. Headstone Manor, about 1.9 miles north-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, the deep reveals of an older window can frame a seat neatly. For families living near Harrow High School, a place for each person’s coat and shoes stops the hallway filling up.

Flats, blocks and rented homes
If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations. We cannot give advice on leases, so check it yourself or ask your managing agent.
If the property is let, we’ll need access agreed with the tenants. An agent can arrange access for you, and the written quote can go to whoever needs it.
FAQs: window seats in Northwick Park
Do you make window seats for homes in Northwick Park?
Yes. Northwick Park is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Brent and London. To get started, you can message us from the contact page with some details.
I live near Kenton station. Is that in your area?
Yes, homes across Brent and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can drop us a line using the contact form with some details about the room.
Does someone need to be home during the fitting?
Someone needs to let us in. It also helps to have someone around at the end, so we can go over the finished furniture together.
My walls are not straight. Is that a problem?
That’s normal in older homes, and it’s what scribing is for. Edges are scribed to the wall, and adjustable feet or a plinth bring the furniture up to level.
Can a window seat go over the radiator?
Yes. A radiator under the window is common, and the seat is designed to work with it. A grille in the front lets the heat into the room. Anything stored over the radiator will stay warm, so we plan the storage with that in mind.
Do you work on Saturdays?
Yes, by arrangement. Let us know when you contact us if a Saturday suits you best.
Fitting day, step by step
On the morning of the fitting, the first job is covering the floors and protecting the way in from the front door. The sections made in our workshop come in next, a piece at a time. The time the fitting takes depends on the shape of the bay or recess and what goes under the seat, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. In a newer home, floors, walls and door frames are often freshly finished, so we protect the route before carrying anything in. Door frames and corners get covers too. Once inside, the pieces are joined in place.
- First we hear about your bay or window and what you’d like.
- At the design visit, every side of the window is measured.
- We agree the seat, the storage and the finish, and send a quote in writing.
- Every part is made in our workshop, ready for a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
- The seat is fitted, scribed to the walls and checked with you. A radiator grille, if there is one, lets the heat through.
Before fitting day
- Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
- Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
- Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
Getting a quote
Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit. To arrange a visit, drop us a line using the contact form.
