Each job starts with a design visit and a written quote. Every neighbourhood has its own page, listed below, or get in touch to arrange a design visit.

Our wall beds across Camden

The cabinet is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish. Doors on the front can look like a run of cupboards, sitting quietly in the room. We make wall beds from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and people most often get in touch about room for a desk and a guest bed and somewhere comfortable for guests to sleep.

There is not much for you to do on fitting day. Someone needs to let us in, and the room should already be cleared, as agreed at the design visit. After that, it’s over to us: the floors are covered, the sections come in and the fitting begins. How long the fitting takes depends on the bed, the cabinets and the wall it fixes to, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote.

  1. You get in touch with some details about the room.
  2. We visit, measure and discuss the bed, shelves and desk. What the wall is made of matters, as the bed has to be fixed securely.
  3. You receive a quote in writing, setting out the design, materials and finish.
  4. Everything is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit the bed and storage in your home, with the mechanism fixed as its maker specifies.

Quotes in Camden

What goes inside matters as much as the outside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers all add work. We will talk through what you need inside during the design visit, and the quote follows.

Getting a quote

Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. Each room is different, so we quote after seeing it. For a quote, use our contact form.

Near you in St Pancras

We fit furniture in homes around Elizabeth Garrett Anderson School, Lumen United Reformed Church and Pilsudski Institute of London. Nearby too are Lincoln's Inn Fields (0.7 miles south), St George the Martyr Church of England Primary School (a few minutes’ walk south), City Academy (a few minutes’ walk south-east) and Calthorpe Arms Public House (under half a mile south-east). For rail, the closest station is London Kings Cross station, roughly 0.5 miles north-west of the centre. Nearby you will also find Foundling Museum (less than half a mile west) and Montfichet's Tower (1.1 miles south-east). Green spaces nearby include Barnsbury Wood and Ludgate Hill.

Bedroom storage across Camden

We make wall beds for homes across Camden, in St Pancras, Hampstead and West End and beyond. External walls can be colder than internal ones, so ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps avoid condensation. Fixings are chosen for the wall, whatever it’s made of.

Homes built before 1919 make up about 49% of the housing in Camden, with about 16% built between 1945 and 1972, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. About 49% of homes in Camden were built before 1919, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Older houses can have lath-and-plaster internal walls and floors that slope, both of which matter when fixing a wall bed. Flats in converted or shared houses account for about 28% of households in Camden, going by Census 2021 figures from the ONS. In a converted house, rooms can be odd shapes, with new partitions meeting old walls, and the way in often goes up shared stairs. A lease can require consent for alterations, so it’s worth checking yours first.

Much of London is covered by controlled parking zones run by the boroughs, and depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed. It’s useful to let us know about parking at the measuring visit.

St Pancras: If you live near Lincoln's Inn Fields, morning light matters, so tall pieces go where they won’t shade the window. For an older house near Lumen United Reformed Church, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where wall beds go.

What it’s made from

Spray-painted finish

For a sleek front, spray painting works well and is finished before it reaches you.

Bed mechanism housing

The bed sits inside a cabinet built around its mechanism, fixed securely as its maker specifies. The front can look like a set of cupboards.

When is bespoke worth it?

Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job.

Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that aren’t square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths, which leaves standard units with gaps at the sides and top.

What affects the cost of wall beds

The price reflects the time and materials the job needs. That depends on:

  • The width and height of the space
  • Tricky walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
  • What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
  • The number of doors and drawers

Every room is priced on its own, because the size, the layout and the finish all vary. Spray painting and hand painting are different processes, which affects the cost. You will see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.

Before the design visit

To help us picture the room, please include:

  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
  • Any ideas or images you’ve saved
  • Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling

The quote is built from the design visit. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and go through the design with you. Afterwards, we send a quote in writing, so you can take your time with it. To book one, fill in our short enquiry form.

Tips worth knowing

None of this takes much effort. What we’d suggest:

  • Lower and lift the bed steadily
  • Think about where extra bedding will go
  • Check there’s room for the bed to fold down
  • Clean the cabinet with a soft, damp cloth

New paintwork takes a while to harden. Treat the cabinet gently at first, and wipe the cabinet with a soft cloth only.

If you live in a leasehold flat, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. Your lease is something to check with whoever manages the building.

Bespoke wall beds or ready-made?

Sofa beds cost less and need no fixing, which suits some homes. A wall bed takes a proper mattress and gives back the floor, which can make a small room usable.

Before you hire any carpenter

  • Whether you will get a quote in writing, not just a figure
  • How doors and drawers are fitted
  • Have they thought about parking near you?
  • Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?

FAQs: wall beds in Camden

My walls are not straight. Is that a problem?

Uneven walls are normal in older London homes, and the furniture is made to deal with them. Edges are scribed to the wall, and adjustable feet or a plinth bring the furniture up to level.

Will you paint the walls around the furniture?

No. Our work is the furniture, not the walls. The furniture is finished by spray or by hand, as agreed in your quote.

Do you work in Camden?

Yes. We work across all 32 London boroughs and the City of London, Camden included.

Where is the furniture made?

Everything is built in our workshop for your room, then brought to your home and fitted. We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.

Will you travel outside London?

No. We only take on work in London, across all the boroughs and the City of London.

Can you build shelves or a desk around a wall bed?

Yes, and it’s one of the best ways to use the wall. Shelves and cupboards around the bed make the most of the space, while new sockets are for your electrician.

Can I send photos ahead of the visit?

Yes. They give us a feel for the space before we visit. It helps to show radiators, sockets and anything else on the wall.
